AN EDIT TO MY EDIT: I got my mice in a muddle, so I've corrected the links below!
EDIT: You can find PDF Country Mouse patterns here and Pattern Booklets here and - cherry on the cake - Richla at GotKwilts is offering kits here!
If your home is bursting at the seams with quilts, then table toppers and runners can be a wonderful way to express your creativity without recreating the Princess & the Pea on every bed and sofa. Here's a quick idea shared in last week's Colour Stories post...
A sweet table topper for your autumn kitchen
To make a 40” square table topper you will need...
5” x WOF strip of sand Tilda Chambray for the mouse’s faces
1 5” square of dusty rose Tilda Solid for the mouse’s ears & paws
7 5” x WOF print strips (Tilda Creating Memories: Carla saffron, Harper saffron, Polkadot ginger, Berrytangle copper, Frida brown, Carla red & Frida red)
1⅓ yds of dark grey Tilda Chambray background
48” square of cotton batting
48” square of backing (approx. 2¾ yds)
⅓ yd of petrol Tilda Chambray binding fabric
Dark grey and sift pink embroidery floss
You will also need a copy of the Country Mouse Sampler pattern, with the following amendments. Please read through them all before starting your project: -
CUTTING:
Please note that the pattern gives individual cutting directions for each block. You will be making 2 Blackberry blocks, 1 Berry Picking block and 1 Jam Making block.
1. For the outer border cut 4 3” x WOF strips and for the inner border cut 4 2¼” x WOF strips. For the pieced border cut 4 1½” x WOF strips and subcut 72 1½” squares.
2. From the binding fabric cut 5 2¼” x WOF strips.
MAKING THE BLOCKS:
3. Make the Blackberry blocks, substituting a 5” print square for the nine-patch berry in step 2.
4. Make the mouse blocks – Berry Picking and Jam Making - substituting a 3½” square for the four patch in step 4.
FINISHING THE TABLE TOPPER:
5. Join the four blocks together, then add a 2¼” x 28½” inner border strip to each side and a 2¼” x 32” inner border strip to the top and bottom.
6. Make 36 scallop units in various prints, using the scraps from your blocks, and join them together in 4 sets of 9 to make the pieced border. Join to the inner border, adding 2½” print squares at each corner.
7. Finally, add the 3” outer borders before adding the optional touches of embroidery, then quilt, bind and enjoy!
With love from the studio,
Hi Nicola, I love all your mouse designs :-) The links above send us to the Button Mouse pattern, not the Country Mouse. (Which confused me as I have the Button Mouse pattern and the adaptions you suggest above didn't work with it!)
