Have you ever joined a sew-a-long? I'm always keen and have sewn along with Flickr and Instagram groups - both photo-sharing sites - which allow you to see what your fellow quilters are making: learning and being inspired as you go...

My first foray into the world of online quilting was almost exactly four years ago when I joined the Swoon-along on Flickr to make Camille Roskelley's wonderful - and wildly popular - 'Swoon' quilt. Me and 1,500 other people. Really. I went on to make a 'Hopscotch' quilt with the same group. And, frankly, there's no way I could've tackled templates, triangles and bias edges without their help and encouragment.

Instagram seems to have taken over from Flickr for quilt-a-longs now, mainly because it's so easy to post admiring comments and ask questions. Each group is assigned a hashtag - see my blocks from the #dwellalong above - which makes everyones' photos so easy to access.

Last year I joined the #starcrossedsewlaong with the marvellous Fat Quarter Shop, who host a myriad of sew-alongs each year on Instagram, on their blog and on their excellent YouTube channel. They also have a rather lovely on-line shop...
And this year? Well, I'll be joining the Moda Bakeshop quilt-along (#MBSbirthdayQAL on Instagram) I've chosen a very appropriate motto for my quilt and I plan to hang it over my desk...

I'd love you to join me...
Nicola xx
